Obituary of Robert Thomas Becker
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Thomas Becker was born on October, 21 1944 in Philadelphia, PA to Charles and Elizabeth Becker and was the middle child to his older brother Charles and his younger brother Billy. He was raised and grew up in Southwest Philadelphia in the same home on Grovers Avenue. Quite the figure with his tall stature and bright red hair, he was a neighborhood favorite and picked up the apropos nickname. “Reds”. Running the streets with his lifelong friends, Jim Hooker and Jackie Rafter they tended to get in more trouble than most, but always to be rescued by “Betty”, Roberts mother. As were most during that time, Robert was drafted by the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany, driving Gas Tankers. He met the love of his life Nancy Murray, a West Philadelphia native, and they married on June 7, 1969. Reds and Nancy, as they so lovingly were called by all of their many friends and family, had their first child, Robert Jr. on July 17, 1971 and their second child, Jeanine on August 9, 1973 and lived in Colwyn, PA for a short time. In 1974, as a member of National Airlines and a very dedicated Teamster, Robert was transferred to Hollywood, FL, where he and Nancy had their 3rd and final child, John, born on February 18th, 1979. From 1975 to today, Reds and Nancy have made their home and raised their children in the same loving house that so many memories were born. As the children grew, moved away and created their own families, Robert’s love for his family grew even stronger. He and Nancy made repeated trips to see their grandchildren, Frankie, Chloe, Jackson, Johnny, Ellie, Kellan and Chace. Always remembering his roots, Robert was a lifelong fan of the Phillies, Flyers and Eagles and by what some believe, Divine Intervention, was able to watch his beloved Eagles win Super Bowl 52 just this past year. On June 29th, 2018, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend, Robert Thomas Becker was called to heaven after a courageous 2-year battle with Cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his children, Robert Jr., Jeanine, and John, their spouses, Frank, Amanda and Kirsten, his grandchildren Frankie, Chloe, Jackson, Johnny, Ellie, Kellan and Chace and the many, many people who had called him friend for 73 years. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 10 A.M. on Thursday July 5, 2018, 7450 Stirling Road, Hollywood, Florida 33024 954-432-5313, cremation to follow.
