Melodi Anna Maria Allenger, Nickname – “Cricket”, 56, born in Kingston, Jamaica on the 18th day of December 1964, in St. Andrews Hospital, Kingston Jamaica to George and Juliana Allenger (nee Peralto) weighing 5 lbs, but came into this world with a burst of energy and life. Melodi was raised in Cayman Islands and Florida after our parents migrated from Jamaica. Melodi went home on 14th July 2020 in Broward North Medical Center – Vitas Hospice Center, Deerfield Beach Florida.
It didn’t take Melodi (“Cricket”) long to get on her feet and from that day her energy was just bubbling over. Some people couldn’t believe how friendly she was and always had a smile on her face; no matter what difficulties she was going through/experiencing. She took life in stride and with every disappointment; she turned it around and always saw something beautiful or good in the disappointments. She loved being outdoors, she enjoyed sports, fishing and working on cars.
Melodi was unique, she love children, her passion for spoiling them and taking them outdoors, whether it was to the beach, fishing, movies or simply playing sports, she enjoyed every moment. She was a big kid at heart and enjoyed sharing her time with the children, whatever they wanted to do; she was always up for the challenge and would never disappoint them. Melodi made many friends over the years, she could light up a room whenever she entered and by the end of the night, everyone knew Melodi. Her friendly welcoming personality made her the life of the party.
Melodi’s completed her tertiary education in Florida, where she attend North Miami High School, North Miami, Florida after we migrated to the United States and graduated in 1984. Melodi’s exhibited her love for sports when she joined the Basket Ball Team in High School; she remained on the Team until she graduated. The Team won many tournaments and we enjoyed participating in all her games. She even tried to get me, her sister (Shiona) to try out for the team once; we quickly realized that was not my cup of tea! Melodi went on to college where she earned an Associates Degree in Mechanics from the University of Miami. She worked with Tire Kingdom for more than 10 years as a Customer Service Representation and Junior Mechanic. She loved working on cars, which was her passion.
Melodi enjoyed helping others and she got involved with various charities such as feed the poor and would always assist every Thanksgiving serving the homeless. This was particularly important to her, this was always her way of giving back, she would say.
