Obituary of Lillian Hoover Bresnahan

Lillian Hoover Bresnahan July 1, 1924 – July 17, 2020 Lillian Hoover Bresnahan went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 17, 2020, exactly 12 years to the day of her beloved husband, Jack Robert Bresnahan. She was 96 years old, born on July 1, 1924 to Wildom and Margaret Courtney Hoover, and the sister of Lillie Victoria Hoover and Mary Etta Ginart, who preceded her in death. She was the loving Mother of Colleen Azcona (Steve), and the adoring Grandmother to Elizabeth Azcona, Stephen Azcona (Olivia), and Katherine Azcona. Lillian grew up in Hammond, LA before moving to New Orleans, where she and Jack married in 1961. She had her only child, Colleen, on her 39th birthday, and was so proud to tell everyone of the special coincidence. From then on, she devoted her life to taking care of her family, gardening (a “greener thumb” never existed!), and making her delicious BBQ chicken and famous Pineapple Upside Down Cake for every special occasion. (The prized “corner pieces” came at a premium!) She and Jack moved to Florida in 1989, and were the most doting of Grandparents; never missing a school function, birthday, or sporting event, and instilled a love of St. Patrick’s Day and Irish music that continues to this day. Strawberry picking was a special favorite memory from her childhood that she was able to share with her “babies”. Lil was always known for her signature black hair, red lipstick and brightly polished nails, and for always being perfectly “pulled together” before ever stepping out of her door. A very proud woman, indeed. She loved her family and friends with all of her heart, and was truly loved in return. We will miss your sweet, smiling face Mom, but know that you are watching over us now as another one of God’s Special Angels. Jack and Lil, together again. A private interment will be at the South Florida Veterans’ National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
