Obituary of Melanie Tumlos Vinluan

Melanie Vinluan (11/20/61-08/09/20) Melanie was born in the Sara, Iloilo, Philippines. She was raised by her father Gabriel “Tatay Gabi” and her mother Lagrimas “Nanay Laging” together with her siblings Cynthia, Rossinee, and Pinky. She was also raised alongside her cousins and other relatives Helen, Malvar, Gina, Rosalia, Joy, and Elmer. Melanie attended Central Philippine University College of Nursing where she studied hard and earned her Bachelor’s degree. She worked in Saudi Arabia for a short period of time before accepting a position at Jackson Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse in 1989. Early in her career at JMH, she made many friends who quickly became family. As fate would have it, she would also meet the love of her life, Wilfredo, who also worked at JMH as a nurse. Melanie and Willy were married on February 15, 1991, and had two children, Karen Joy and Derek, whom she loved dearly. Melanie was strong. Despite being a two time kidney transplant recipient, her faith in God was never shaken and her spirit was always full of joy. She enjoyed sitting on the beach with her husband, taking long drives with family and friends, visiting her children in different cities, and seeing her family in the Philippines both online and in person. She was always very welcoming and took care of everyone she met. Though she has passed, her resiliency and kind spirit live on in her family and friends..
