Muriel Marie Lawson January 6, 1923 – December 22, 2021
Muriel Marie Lawson of Davie, FL, formally of Vero Beach, FL and long time resident of New City, NY, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021, 2 weeks shy of her 99th birthday.
Muriel was born on January 6, 1923 in New York City, NY to Leo P. Mischke and Anna Mischke (nee Diener). While in grammar school in Clausen Point, Bronx, NY she met Robert Lawson, Sr. who would become her loving husband of 72 years. He preceded her in death in 2016.
Muriel was the mother of 7, grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of 29.
Her greatest pleasures were her family and friends. She especially enjoyed entertaining for holidays and football games. A sports enthusiast, Muriel loved watching her children and grandchildren on the playing fields and basketball courts.
She was also an avid card player and enjoyed reading and music.
But Muriel will be most remembered for her vivacious personality and fabulous sense of humor. She loved to tell jokes and make humorous toasts – Seymour Heinie, a Unique Rabbit and “Here’s to those who love us…” come to mind. A true extrovert, Muriel’s renditions of “Danke Schoen” and “Tangerine” brought down the house at many a party. An aspiring author, she started a first draft of Mustard on the Ceiling, chronicling the exploits of her rambunctious family.
She is survived by her children Robert Lawson, Jr. (Laurel), Thomas Lawson (Stephanie), Kathleen Lawson Albertson (Philip), Kristine Lawson Morley, Stephen Lawson (Ellen) and James Lawson and was preceded in death by her beloved son, Kevin Lawson.
All who knew and loved her agree there was no one more fun and loving than Muriel. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed but lives on in all of us every time we ask: “How do you make a tissue dance?”
A Funeral Mass will be held on February 7, 2022 at St. David’s RC Church, 3900 S University Dr, Davie, FL 33328 at 10 AM. The family will be available to receive visitors at the church at 9:30 AM.
