Obituary of Evangeline Muega Santos
Please share a memory of Evangeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evangeline Muega Santos was born in Koronadal, South Cotabato Philippines on July 18, 1965, to Leonido and Sylvia. She was the youngest of five children, all of which are with the Lord. She was the last in her family that the Lord God had taken from us.
Evangeline has been very caring and supportive, not only to her family, but to her closest friends. Upon deciding that she wanted to become a nurse and work in the US, she persuaded her brothers to send her to nursing school in Davao City, Philippines. During that time, she gained many meaningful relationships that have sustained even to this day.
Evangeline came to the US after hurricane Andrew in 1992, where she worked in South Miami Hospital. She gained more friends (who are here today) that have helped her adjust and assist her during her transition. Throughout the years, she gained more friends, both at work and in church. Evangeline worked in Jackson Memorial Hospital for 28 and half years as an Associate Nurse Manager of West Wing 11. She worked on the same unit, from the day Jackson hired her up to the day she died. Her co-workers respected and adored her due to her great personality, accountability, and great leadership. She loved what she did and God really made her who she was.
In 1994, she got married to Alexander Santos, and brought two wonderful children into the world. Kosygen, 26, is currently working as a nurse in Jackson Memorial Hospital. Angelie Rebecca, 24, will be graduating with her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy this May. To Evangeline, her kids were her pride and joy. Everything she did was for them and their future. She always thought about their future and what would happen to them when she was gone. Evangeline always reminded her husband to make sure the children are cared for. Her children loved and respected her immensely. Kosygen, who is more attached to his mom, did everything she asked with no questions asked. He gave her comfort in times she needed it most. Angelie loved her mom in her own special way. She did everything in her power to ensure her mom was proud of her and the woman she was becoming. Despite the differences in relationships between Evangeline and her children, she loved them both wholeheartedly. Alex, her husband of 27 years, has loved her since their first encounter in Manila and will continue to love her for the rest of his life. He always made sure to do everything in his power to make her happy. Evangeline loved her family very much.
Evangeline lived a fruitful life. She made sure that her family in the Philippines were always taken care of and made sure to support them in every way she could. Evangeline found joy in assisting her nephews and nieces in pursuing their studies. Angeline and Christlyn, were the first two nieces that she had supported, and she is so proud to see them achieve their dream through hard work and dedication. Evangeline never said no to her family when they needed her help, and she always found a way to provide them whatever they needed.
Evangeline travelled with her husband for the past 4 years before the pandemic started in 2020. She travelled to Mexico, Europe, and the Bahamas and enjoyed every second of it. Traveling was shared with her closest friends, who have been with her all her life when she arrived here in the US. Evangeline took pride in her sense of fashion and loved dressing nicely whether she was going grocery shopping or strolling through Paris. With every picture and memory she had, you would never catch her using the same outfit twice.
Evangeline’s stress reliever was enjoying a night with her friends at work, while still discussing the stress they have experienced. At home, she played mahjong with her husband and children every other Sunday after church when they were both off from work. She loved her orchids and spent countless hours and money to keep them alive and happy. Evangeline was always excited to see her flowers bloom and enjoyed sharing her joy through Facebook. Facebook was her way of keeping in touch with her friends and family outside of Florida, and to share her endeavors. She spoke with her sister-in-law, Elena, almost every day to talk about news at home and many other things.
Evangeline cherished every moment of her life. She loved being a nurse and was always there when she was needed. Her pleasant personality, her charm, her character, her compassion, and readiness to help were the things her family, friends and co-workers would cherish the most. Although she will be missed by many, she is at home now with God the Father, Lord Jesus, Mother Mary, and all the saints, angels and martyrs as well as with Papa Leonido, Mama Sylvia, Manong Boy, Manong Bobot, Manong Franklin, Manang Baby, Dad Felix, Mom Amparo and Angelica.
We love you so much, Evangeline. You will be missed dearly.
