Obituary of Shane G. Farrell

Please share a memory of Shane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shane Gerard Farrell January 4, 1967 – April 7, 2022 Shane Gerard Farrell was born in Queens, New York on January 4th, 1967. He passed away on April 7th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with his daughter Kierra and son Ryan by his side. Shane and his siblings had an eventful childhood, moving from New York to Kilkenny, Ireland, when Shane was four. His parents opened a bustling country pub called The Fox & Goose. Their mother, Julie, who passed away from Leukemia when Shane was only six years old, doted on her five children. After his father remarried, he and his wife, Olive, welcomed another sibling. Shane and his two brothers and three sisters enjoyed roaming the fields, hiding in hay barns, and learning to pull pints of beer behind the bar for the locals, and a few for himself and his brother! Shane attended the Christian Brothers School in Kilkenny until 1979, when the family moved to Saint Petersburg, Florida. Shane then attended Transfiguration Catholic School and Gibbs High School. He and his brother Stephen were Irish twins, barely twelve months apart in age, and did everything together. There are many tales of their antics, and many more that can probably never be made public! All the siblings were a close-knit bunch who shared many fun times and adventures. Shane enjoyed a thirty-seven year career in print media technology. At the time of his passing, he was Plant Manager for Wilen Group in Fort Lauderdale. He is lauded and remembered by his peers and management for his knowledge, dedication and loyalty. A certain supervisor (who shall remain unnamed) said he would never admit to Shane that Shane could run a press better than he could. Shane was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He loved his children and his grandson dearly. They were his greatest joys in the world. In a time where none of this makes sense, we can be comforted knowing he will always be looking out for them from above. Shane had a passion for muscle cars and was an accomplished self-taught mechanic. He lovingly restored a 1972 Chevelle that, second to his children, was his pride and joy. He was also an avid NASCAR and notoriously loyal Tampa Bay Bucs fan. Shane had a great love for his pets and over the years adopted or rescued many cats and dogs. His cats Lenny and Smokey were a great comfort to him after his wife, Connie, unexpectedly passed away in 2020. Shane was predeceased by his mother Julie (McDonnell) Farrell, his wife, Connie (Merritt) Farrell, his nephew, Keegan Neill, and his Aunt and Godmother, Teresa (McDonnell) Cahill. He leaves behind wonderful memories for his children, Kierra Farrell and Ryan Farrell, his grandson, Liam Farrell, his father, Denis Farrell and stepmother, Olive Farrell, his siblings, Denise Frayman and her husband, Sandy, Stephen Farrell and his wife, Penny, Rosaleen Farrell, Niall Farrell and Blanche Melamed and her husband, Guy, nieces Julie Farrell and Riley Schmidt, nephews Stephen Farrell, Brady Neill, Emmitt Frayman and his wife Jillian, Ronan Frayman, Connor Schmidt, Dylan Melamed, his great-niece, Emerson Farrell, his former wife, Deanna Farrell, and many more dear cousins in the U.S. and Ireland. By departing this life, he has most certainly secured status as Teresa’s favorite nephew (if you know, you know!!). A memorial service for Shane will be held in St. Petersburg, Florida on May 14th, 2022.
