Obituary of Mary Kathrine Shockley

Mary Kathrine Gullett Shockley, 96, transitioned peacefully into God’s hands on April 24, 2022. She was born in Bixby, Oklahoma on June 14th, which was officially named Flag Day by the US Congress in 1949.
Her father, Harry Edgar Gullett, and mother, Margaret Agnes McMurray Gullett, had six children. From the oldest, Winifred Harry Gullett, Mary Kathrine, Charles Edgar Gullett, Donald Gene Gullett, Margaret Faye Gullett (Lockmiller), and Eddie McMurray Gullett.
Mary attended Jarrett Junior High School, and then graduated from Central High School in 1942, both in Springfield, Missouri.
In December of 1944, she married the love of her life, Paul Maxie Shockley. His sister and brother-in-law, Joe and Leona Helton, stood up for them before they boarded a train to Boston to honeymoon. In Boston, she was able to go aboard her husband’s Navy ship before he sailed.
Her husband Paul, predeceased her in 1988.
Wherever she lived she was active with the church. From Hamilton Baptist in Springfield, MO, to Flagami Baptist in Miami, FL, and later to virtual services, she found solace in the teachings of God.
She is survived by four children, Carolyn Shockley Dunnick and her husband Reggie of Bradenton, FL; Paul W. Shockley of Pembroke Pines, FL; Martha Shockley Geus and her husband Karl Geus of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Marilyn Shockley Vann of Winter Park, FL; her sister Margaret Gullett Lockmiller, brother Eddie Gullett and his wife June all of Springfield, MO.
Mary was blessed with many grandchildren. Elliot and his wife Mary Haworth, Mary Elizabeth Geus, Katie Haworth, Amanda Geus and Joe Santiago, TC and his wife Crystal Vann, Jennifer Vann, Timothy Vann, Nick Shockley.
She was further blessed with 12 great-grandchildren.
In Repose Saturday April 30, 2022 from 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. with a 3:30 P.M. Funeral Service at the Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial Chapel, 9000 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024. Burial will take place on Sunday May 1, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Woodlawn Park Cemetery South, 11655 Southwest 117th Avenue, Miami, Florida. Please keep the Shockley family in your thoughts and prayers.
