Sergio Dottori of Pembroke Pines, FL passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 16, 2022 at the age of 89. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather; a devoted family man remembered for Sunday lunch family gatherings.
Born in Italy to Alfredo and Maria in December 1933, he grew up on a small family farm in the Tuscan countryside of Montepulciano. Brother to the late Valeriano and surviving sister, Agnese, Sergio had a lifelong passion for geography and a yearn to explore the world beyond Italy.
Upon graduating from the Royal Hotel School in Bordighera, Italy in 1956, Sergio embarked on his first international adventure to work in the Guernsey Channel Island, UK. From there, he worked in London before joining the TSS Olympia for three years to explore the world. He visited numerous European, Eastern and Western Mediterranean, North African, and Black Sea ports of call. He made a number of TransAtlantic crossings to New York and down to the Caribbean. In New York, Sergio became a naturalized US citizen and joined the US Merchant Marine with the dream of exploring the Pacific on his way to Hong Kong.
The course of his life changed when he fell in love and married Jessie. They had two children, Lorenzo and Monica. Sergio honed his profession at some of the finest restaurants in New York City and in the 1970’s the family moved to South Florida where Sergio, as a restauranteur, helped open multiple restaurants, including two of his own.
He is survived by his wife Jessie; son Lorenzo, his wife Minette and their two children Alex and Emily; daughter Monica, her husband Tony and their two children Nicholas and Alexa; in Italy by his sister Agnese’s family and that of his brother, Valeriano; and by family and close friends Stateside and abroad who cherished his kindness, generosity, hospitality, and easy sense of humor.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in the Chapel, 701 N Hiatus Rd Pembroke Pines, FL 33026, on Thursday January 12, 2023 at 11:00AM.
