Obituary of Douglas Todd Redding

“All grown-ups were once children…but only a few of them remember it.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince) Douglas Todd Redding, age 64, died unexpectedly Monday July 3, 2023. He was born October 10, 1958, in Madison, WI, to Francis Raymond and Lillian Elizabeth (née Weber) Redding. Doug graduated with an Associate Degree in Marketing from Madison Area Technical College in 1985. Doug was always good with cars and engines and always had a ‘hot rod’ as a teenager. His love of vehicles easily transitioned to airplanes when he became a commercial pilot for FedEX, followed by a long career in aviation services. Doug was a delightful grown-up who definitely remembered the joy of being a kid. He was exuberant, playful, a jokester, loved to fish, and enjoyed food, fireworks, and fun! For 4th of July family reunions, by day he took over the kitchen to make his mother’s potato pancakes for 70+ people; by night he would delight the community with a grand fireworks show. He loved providing waffle breakfast spreads for his work family at Signature and entertaining his neighbors over the holidays. Doug is survived by his loving son, Eric Redding of Madison, WI, sister Nina Redding (Larry Westergard) of Edmonton, AB, WWII veteran uncle Roy Lee Redding of Towanda, IL, uncle and aunt, Dick and Barb Weber of Denver, Colorado, niece Anna Redding of Berlin, Germany, nephew Nick and sister-in-law Dawn Redding of Waukesha, WI, many close cousins, and his loving pets Linus and Binx. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ken Redding. The family would like to thank Doug’s remarkable community of friends on Park St. and throughout the country for their support during this time. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, head to your favorite restaurant and have a great meal and a cold drink in honor of Doug.
