Angel Manuel Medina, a luminary in the world of thoroughbred horse racing, bid farewell to this world on 4/9/2024. With a career spanning 57 illustrious years, Angel dedicated his life to the sport, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and the lives of countless individuals. Born in Venezuela, Angel began his journey in horse training in 1967. Over the next two decades, he achieved remarkable success, clinching numerous celebrated stake races, including a impressive 61 Grade 1 & 2 victories. His prowess as a trainer led him to be recognized as a leading figure in the racing world, claiming the title of leading horse trainer seven times. Beyond the racetrack, Angel's compassion and sense of justice propelled him into a different arena. Despite not being a politician, he recognized the plight of backstretch workers and their need for representation. In a selfless act of advocacy, Angel ventured into politics, serving as their voice in Congress. He donated his salary to nonprofit organizations, exemplifying his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. In 1987, Angel embarked on a new chapter, immigrating to the United States with his beloved wife, Olga, and their three daughters. His career flourished in his adopted country, as he continued to secure victories in many acclaimed races. A childhood dream came to fruition when he competed and won the “Lexington Stake” with the noble horse "My Luck Runs North," an inexpensive horse that had a heart of gold. Mr. Medina loved this country and always use to say “I’m happy to be in America” every time he was interviewed after a major race. He is a testament to his unwavering determination and resilience and perseverance. Despite his professional achievements, Angel's greatest legacy lies in the love he had for his family and his boundless compassion for those in need. He lived by the principle of helping others without seeking recognition or reward, leaving an enduring impact on all who crossed his path. He was a beacon of compassion and generosity to his family, friends and even strangers. Angel Manuel Medina is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Olga, his daughters Monica, Vanessa, Nathalie, his three grandchildren, and three sons-in-law. While he may have departed this world, his legacy of kindness, altruism, integrity, and generosity will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him, ensuring that his memory lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by his remarkable spirit.
