Solange Laraque, beloved matriarch, passed away at 87 years old.
Solange Laraque, affectionately known as Soso passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024 at the age of 87. Born on January 9, 1937 in Port-au-Prince Haiti to Herman Laraque and Virginia Sancio, her rich heritage was a blend of Haitian and Italian descent.
Determined to create a better life for herself and her daughter Yvrose, Solange courageously left Haiti and settled in New York, where she pursued her dreams with tenacity. Like many immigrants, she worked odd jobs to sustain the family she left behind.In her free time, she perfected her passion for the art of Haitian cooking. Her culinary talents became renowned among family and friends, who frequently enjoyed her flavorful dishes at gatherings.
Solange’s zest for life was evident in her love of dancing and socializing. During many weekends, she would don her most elegant garments, gracing many with her presence, her grace and beauty, on the dance floors of New York City, to enjoy its vibrant nightlife.
As her family grew in the US, Solange turned her focus on building a stable future. She enrolled at Wilfred Academy of beauty, obtaining her license as a cosmetologist, mastering her skills in hair, skincare and makeup artistry. She eventually started her beauty salon at home, becoming a respected and beloved beautician in her community.
Solange’s enduring legacy will live on as evidenced by the large and loving family she leaves behind. She is survived by her sister Mrs. Claudette Theodore, her 2 daughters Yvrose Michel and Shirley Vivien, her 3 sons Rodney Limousin and his wife Emma, Larry Laraque and his wife Jennifer, Lesly Laraque and his partner Mandy. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Luckner Vivien and her grandson Marcus Vivien.
She also leaves behind many grandchildren-Anthony "Kim", Melissa, Larry, Jr., Destiny, Elora & Serenity. Many great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She faced many health challenges in her later years, including a stroke, back surgery and a late diagnosis of breast cancer. Through it all, Solange’s spirit remained indomitable. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, she joyfully participated in family gatherings, spreading her infectious energy, her love of dancing. Her radiance illuminated every occasion.

To her great grandchildren: Malani Marrero, Jonathan Michel and his wife Racquel Mc Farlane, Isabella Michel, Emmanuelle Michel, Isaac Michel, Patrice Legagneur, Christian Legagneur, Philippe Legagneur, Christopher Previlon, Jaden Previlon, Jennifer Noel, Jacques Noel, Abigail Choy, Marcus Sincere, Messiah Vivien, Jordan Vivien, Anthony Limousin and his wife, Melissa Limousin, Larry Laraque Jr., Shayla Laraque, Serenity Laraque, Christopher Prochet and Eli Prochet.

Manmie Soso was well loved by her family and friends, her life was a testament to her resilience, love and joy. Her love of beauty and makeup has been passed down to her children and grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
Funeral services will be held at
Saint Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Church, 2000 S State Rd 7, Miramar, FL 33023 on Tuesday June 25 th, 2024 at 11 AM.
Burial will be at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1500 S. State Rd 7, North Lauderdale, FL 33068.
Repast will follow soon after at 3045 Dolphin Drive Miramar, Florida 33023.
