On behalf of the National Land Agency, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Nicholas, his passing has left a profound void in our hearts.
It is with heavy hearts that we pay tribute to a remarkable man, a dedicated professional, and a true friend, Nicholas Hinds.
Nick's journey with the National Land Agency began in July 2002, when he joined as an Assistant Surveyor. From that moment, it was clear that he was destined for greatness. His passion for his work, his unyielding commitment to excellence, and his natural aptitude for surveying quickly set him apart. Through hard work and perseverance, Nick passed the Land Surveyors Board Examination and was granted the privilege of practicing as a Surveyor on March 5, 2008 —a milestone that marked the beginning of a distinguished career.
Over the years, Nick's expertise and dedication to his craft saw him rise through the ranks, becoming a Senior Surveyor, then a Chief Plan Examiner. On many occasions, he stepped into the role of Manager of the Plan Examination and Certification Branch, where his leadership and vision guided his colleagues and the agency through countless challenges. His contributions were invaluable, not only in his technical knowledge but in his unwavering commitment to making the workplace a better and more collaborative environment for all.
What set Nick apart, however, was not just his technical expertise or his professional accomplishments, but his character and his selflessness. He always made time to support others. He believed in empowering others to achieve their full potential He was always ready to offer a helping hand, to support and encourage those around him. His mentoring of student surveyors was a testament to his generosity of spirit. He worked tirelessly to help them reach their ultimate goal of obtaining their commission, believing in their potential even when they doubted themselves. Nick’s wisdom, patience, and guidance left an indelible mark on the many young surveyors he mentored, and his influence will be felt for many years to come.
Nick's work ethic, integrity, and dedication to his craft were matched only by his kindness and generosity. He believed in the value of teamwork, and his contributions to the National Land Agency and to the surveying profession will never be forgotten. He was a friend, a colleague, and a mentor to so many.
As his colleagues often said, Nick was the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He brought warmth, joy, and laughter to the workplace with his infectious personality. His love for music was well-known, and it was something that always brought people together. Nick's presence always brightened the atmosphere, making the workplace feel like a true family.
Nick's peers have described him with words such as compassionate, generous, and considerate—qualities that he embodied in every interaction. He was a friend to all, a man who listened with empathy, offered help without hesitation, and always made others feel valued. He was a mentor, not just by profession, but by nature, always giving of himself, encouraging those around him to be their best.
As we remember Nicholas Hinds, we reflect on the legacy of hard work, excellence, and kindness that he leaves behind. His presence may no longer grace our offices, but his impact on the lives he touched will endure forever.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we continue to honour his memory by living with the same commitment to service and compassion that he exemplified throughout his life.
Rest in peace, Nick. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
