Obituary of Rosalia Huerta
Please share a memory of Rosalia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosalia Valentina Huerta passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2016 with her children at her side in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Rosalia was born in Havana, Cuba on February 14, 1928. She was the second daughter of her parents, Eduardo and Margarita Suarez. Of strong religious faith, Rosalia attended Catholic school and taught Sunday school as a young woman.
She married her life-long love - a University of Havana medical student and future business entrepreneur - Eloy B. Huerta on April 4, 1955. In 1956 the couple, along with her parents and older sister, Margarita Suarez, left Cuba for the United States. It was with great pride that they became citizens of the United States in 1960, which they cherished as their new home. They settled down in Bronx, New York where they raised their three children, Margarita Adele, Edward Xavier and Rosalie Marie Huerta.
Always putting the needs and care of her family and others first, Rosalia lived her life unselfishly, with love, kindness, quiet strength, deep faith and a giving heart that endeared her to everyone that was fortunate to know her.
After moving to the United States, she worked in the garment and publishing industries until her retirement in 2008. Rosalia remained active in the church throughout her life as a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in The Bronx, and also attended St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Rosalia was pre-deceased by her parents, Eduardo and Margarita Suarez, and her sister Margarita Suarez. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eloy Huerta, and her children and their spouses, Margarita Huerta and Jose Ricardo Mestre, Edward Huerta and Sandy Ireton, and Rosalie Hagel and Benjamin Martin; two granddaughters Jessica Huerta and Stacie Lazorek; godson Mark Piscope, and extended family and cousins, including the Berges and De La Fuente families.
Rosalia's life will be celebrated in Pembroke Pines at Scarano Funeral Home, 9000 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines on Thursday, February 11 between 5:00-9:00pm. Further services and interment to take place in New York at Blessed Sacrament Church, Bronx, New York and St. Raymond's Cemetery.
