Obituary of Myron Merrill

Please share a memory of Myron to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Myron (Ron) Crawford Merrill passed away Saturday , February 27, 2016 at 7:30 in the morning. He was surrounded by his family during a three week struggle with illness which he fought until the end. Ron or Ronnie, as his friends call him, was born in New York City on March 20, 1932. This March he would have been 84 years old. As a 10 year old boy growing up in Woodside New York he met a tall beautiful blonde haired 9 year old girl with soft green eyes and a smile that melted him. He fell in love with her instantly and told her he would marry her one day. She laughed. His family moved from New York to Miami when he was 12. The chance of ever seeing her again pretty slim....unless you knew Ron Merrill. He went to Ida May Fischer in Miami and attended Miami Edison High school where he was a member of the baseball team and a shining star on the track team. He was fast and he loved to run. He would tell of how he once entered a Greek track meet under a made up Greek last name so he could compete for the fun of it. After graduating Edison high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps and headed to camp Lejeune North Carolina. With two days in front of him before he was to report to duty, he drove to New York to find the beautiful blond girl , Abigail Blowes, he had not seen since he was 12. Although her family had moved, he tracked her down and showed up in her high school principal's office asking to see her....he said he was getting shipped overseas. It was a white lie that he smiled about while retelling the story only weeks ago. They spent the weekend together , they spent the next four years stealing weekends and trips together whenever they could while he finished his duty to the Marines and she completed college. Then they spent the rest of their lives together up until the very last moment. They had three daughters together; Dawn Jacqueline, Donna Jane and Diane Julia and later welcomed and enjoyed beyond words their two beautiful grandchildren Cameron Chadsey and Abby Clanton. Ron was a salesman his entire life and nothing made him happier than meeting people and helping them when he could. After attending night school at the University of Miami and working with his mother and father, Dorothy and Bob Phenecie at their family run business, Hoffman Office Supplies in Miami Springs, he started his own business forms company and called it DJ Forms, after his three daughters. After successfully developing DJ Forms he moved his family from Hialeah to the Country Club of Miami where Ron and Gail enjoyed tennis and golf and the many friends they met and shared good times with at the club. He was active in the association and committed to protecting and preserving the Country Club and the golf courses up until the end. He also designed, built and enjoyed his waterfront home in Hampton Bays, New York where his family enjoyed the summers every year of their lives. Annual July 4th celebrations were a highlight for the Merrill family and the entire extended Blowes family of 80 or more who Ron embraced as if they were his own family. Days were filled with waterskiing and tubing, backyard volleyball, dining on giant broiled Long Island lobsters and butter, fabulous fireworks shows at night and laughter all weekend long. He needed and wanted very little in life except to make those around him happy, especially his children and the love of his life ...his wife Abigail Sharon Merrill. He is survived by his wife and his three daughters his son-in-law Danny Clanton and his two grandchildren. Services will be held at Joseph A Scarano Funeral Home this Wednesday, March 2nd from 3:00-9:00 pm, with a celebration of his life beginning at 6:30 PM.
