Obituary of Ivan Muter

Ivan Gerald Muter, 93, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his home in Hollywood, Florida.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Pat Muter; his son, Gary Muter; and his three daughters, Sandra Felton, Connie Amenta, and Teresa Salafrio. Ivan and Pat were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Born and raised in Celina, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Luella Muter, with eight brothers and sisters. In his early years he attended Celina High School. After high school he entered the U.S. Army and fought in World War II. He was honorably discharged and then attended Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, his life long passion, which began at age four. He met his wife at Kroger's Grocery Store where he worked to pay for college. Ivan and Pat were married in 1948 at Nativity Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Shortly after being married, he became Catholic.
After Ivan and Pat were married, Ivan began working for the U.S. Postal Service. He worked for the post office for 24 years before retiring. In 1956 Ivan moved with his family to Hollywood, Florida. Soon after, he began working for the Archdiocese of Miami, as an organist at St. Bartholomew Church. Ivan continued his work there, not only as an organist, but also as a music teacher in the school. After leaving St. Bartholomew, he continued as an organist at numerous churches. Ivan spent 51 years as an organist for the Archdiocese, most recently playing at St. Bonaventure until the age of 91.
Ivan was a loving husband. He was kind and had a gentle soul. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his ministry at the church.
A viewing will be held at Scarano Funeral Home on Monday, March 14th from 1:00 - 3:00 and from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral mass will be at St. Bonaventure Church on Tuesday, March 15th at 10AM. Immediately following the internment service at Fred Hunter Hollywood Memorial Gardens North, a gathering will be held at St. Bonaventure in the parish hall.
